A Brief Reflection on 2011 and What’s Up for 2012

It’s good to be back! I’m feeling refreshed after taking some time off following a very busy, challenge-filled December. Our new schedule will begin next week…starting with a fresh newsletter for all subscribers.

2011 was an incredible year…

I ran two Tough Mudder events with some great friends, worked with the amazing ABF team and ran the ABF 10K Mud Run, finished my first (of many) GORUCK Challenges, and completed one full lap in the inaugural World’s Toughest Mudder. I also launched this site back in September and in just a few months, I’ve met some of the most wonderful, unique, and maniacal people around. Most importantly, my beautiful wife gave birth to Cecily, our little bundle of awesomeness!

Yep, 2011 was a definitely a banner year full of so many highs and some pits and falls as well. I reached some goals and failed at others, but that’s okay because now I have things to work on for the new year. To get things off on the right foot, I’d like to share with you some of my goals for 2012, beginning with my schedule of running at least one mud run event or challenge per month.

Here’s what I’m gearing up for so far in 2012:

  • Jan 21 – Personal half-marathon with weighted ruck (Rt. 35 Mantoloking, NJ – Seaside Heights, NJ and back.)
  • March 31 – ABF 10K Mud Run, NJ
  • April 14 – Rebel Race, NJ
  • May 6 – Tough Mudder, VT
  • June 2 – Spartan Sprint, TriState
  • July 14 – Rugged Maniac, NJ
  • July 27 – GORUCK Challenge, NJ
  • Aug 11 – Hero Rush, PA/NJ
  • Sep 7 – GORUCK Challenge, NYC
  • Sep 30 – Tunnel to Towers Run, NYC
  • Oct 27 – Tough Mudder, TriState
  • Nov 4 – NYC Marathon, NYC
  • Dec 15-16 – World’s Toughest Mudder, TBD

What do you think? Know of any east coast events that look good for February? Any events here that you’re interested in doing? What’s your mud running schedule looking like for 2012?

As always, wishing you the best! Thanks for your patience while I was away and I especially thank you for all your support and commitment to the mud running movement. I hope to bring you the best there is to offer on mud run training, tips, reviews, events, gear, grub and more for the new year!

Stay tuned and keep mudding!

Your goal of a mud run a month sounds similar to mine, although I made it a race a month just because I’m a cold weather wimp and mud runs can be hard to find in the winter, even in Southern California. I’m having trouble finding normal races, however, that aren’t ah hour’s drive with an 8AM start time.

    My mud run schedule?
    3/31 Irvine Lake Mud Run
    6/9 Camp Pendleton Mud Run
    7/7 Tough Mudder So Cal
9/2 Disneyland half Marathon (my first half marathon)

Obviously, I have some big blanks to fill in, but I’m working on it.

    A) Awesome lineup!!
    B) I will be doing the GRC on 9/8 in NYC. 1am class!
    C) Spartan Super is in Miami on Feb 25. Looking mighty badass. My team of 14 are in a house for it, and meeting up with about 50 other spartans we know πŸ™‚
    D) Have you heard of S.E.R.E.? I am doing the DC one in a couple weeks. They have some other locations to be announced. Might wanna get in one of those this year as well!

      Hi Crystal,

Good to hear from you! I haven’t selected my GRC NYC date, so maybe I’ll see if there’s room in the 9/8 group. Miami SS sounds great…your 50+ group should make things exciting! I’ve heard of SERE, but I don’t know too much about it. It’s GRC-like I believe, and I know a few GRT guys that have done them or are planning to. Definitely a consideration. Would you want to guest post on it here?

      All the best,

It’s not a Mud Run, but there’s a really challenging trail race in Reading, PA on Feb 26th- It’s called the Ugly Mudder. The organization consistently puts on top-notch races with fun after parties. Here’s a link: http://www.pretzelcitysports.com/uglymudder.html
